The works of Paola Pivi are authentic experiences of wonder, colossal undertakings that generate and affirm new and impossible realities. The artist modifies the paradoxical way the relationship between space and the subjects of her work breathe life into alienating images that put the viewer’s perception to the test. Senza titolo (aereo), along with Pivi’s debut work Camion, 1997 – a truck with a trailer turned on its side – is one of her monumental installations, presented for the first time at the 1999 Venice Biennale. The Fiat G-91 defies the laws of physics with its perfect and incredible balance, almost magically set down on the forecourt at MAXXI. The evocative and surreal vision that we have of the object, amplified by the perfection of the materials and the colors of the airplane, is completely new. The ironic and incoherent position in which the artist arranges it is almost hypnotic, like a reverie.
