Description
Veduta con il segnale animale represents a moment of newly found pictorial happiness for the artist. A work that synthesizes interests in street signs with an eye toward the mysteries of the natural world. If, at the time of the economic boom, urban signs told of the start of a new era, after the ideological transition of the 1970s and the relative disillusionments, Schifano began to look toward familiar and natural intimacy. This large-scale work with a painted frame is divided by a branch on which a nocturnal animal (an imaginary one) similar to a chameleon is visible. The quick brushwork and the thick material make painting from those years aggressive, almost erasing the figural elements of the works.
