The MUSMA tells the story of sculpture, both in Italy and around the world, from the turn of the 20th century up to the present day. The only museum housed in a cave in the world, and the main Italian museum dedicated entirely to sculpture, the MUSMA is hosted within a 17th-century palazzo standing in the heart of the Sasso Caveoso: Palazzo Pomarici, also known as the Palazzo delle cento stanze.
The collection brings together the donations of artists, collectors, galleries and art critics to the Fondazione Zétema of Matera, the promoting body behind the Museum.
