Wannes Goetschalckx 1 STORY

Description
In the context of the performing arts in Flanders, which have come to the fore over the past two decades, the work of Wannes Goetschalckx is distinguished by his creation of filmed performance installations. Combining theatre, visual arts, performance, and video art, the works of the Flemish artist are inspired by the experimentalism of the European and American Avant-garde in the 1960s. The first episode in a series of performances that include "1 Kind and 1 Way", "1 Story" is centered on the physicality and body of the artist who, engaging with the surrounding space, performs actions that narrate an apparently nonsense story. In an acrobatic choreography, Goetschalckx climbs, twists, and moves among architectural elements and crafted objects (including a wooden box, evocative of a nest), which, as is often the case in his works, he himself designed. Produced in collaboration with the filmmaker Kurt Augustyns, the video won the first Premio Giovani Collezionisti (2009) in the ambit of the art fair “The Road to Contemporary Art.”
