Description
Gerardo di Fiore (Giugliano, 1934) is Emeritus Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, where he taught Sculpture. He became popular in the 1970s as a militant artist, strongly committed to social issues, associating himself with the activities of the Galleria Inesistente (Nonexistent Gallery) founded by Vincent d’Arista and Bruno Barbati, and carrying out numerous interventions in the Campania region.
Aleph is an installation part of the body of works exhibited at Di Fiore’s personal exhibition at the Centro Arte Incontri in Nola in 1975, conceived as a tribute to Giordano Bruno and in conjunction with a symposium dedicated to the philosopher. Starting from Giordano Bruno’s statement that reads ‘every point is in itself center and periphery’, the installation embodies the concept of infinity of the universe. Starting from a single point, which contains all the other points, a web of threads radiates from Aleph to infinity, embracing the whole universe.
