In the heart of the Neapolitan Old Town, the three floors of the 19th-century Palazzo Donnaregina host the MADRE · museo d’arte contemporanea Donnaregina: 7,200m2 of exhibition space, featuring site-specific installations, works from the collections and temporary shows.
The Palazzo, which owes its name to the Swabian monastery of St. Maria Donnaregina, is a splendid example of historical stratification, typical throughout the ancient heart of Naples, renovated and structured as a regional contemporary art museum in 2005, based on a project by the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira.
