Carla Accardi Bianco argento

Size
cm 160 x 220
Description
Starting from her debut in 1947 together with the group of abstract artists called Forma 1, and until her death in 2014, Carla Accardi was one of the most original figures in Italian art. Her research soon embraced the abstract sign, condensed from the early 1950s into her most typical expression, a “swarm” of signs laced together and arranged on monochrome backgrounds. Starting from the mid 1960s, the artist replaced the canvas with a semi rigid transparent plastic support known as sicofoil, to which she applied brightly colored signs that at times also spread to the underlying stretchers. This gesture freed the sign in space, bestowing a three dimensional nature on these accumulations. The study of the sign accompanied the artist throughout her career all the way to her last works, such as the canvas entitled "Bianco argento", featuring the simplified and geometric signs that were typical of the style of the artist’s later years.
