Lara Favaretto E’ così se mi interessa

dimensione ambiente/dimensions variable
Born in Treviso, educated at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and Kingston University of London, Lara Favaretto lives and works in Turin. Her eclectic and multi-disciplinary creativity draws from the archive of images and materials she has collected for years, a storehouse that continues to fuel her inventiveness and provides the substance in each of her works. In "È così se mi interessa", a rope hanging from the ceiling rotates around itself, whipping the adjacent wall and leaving evident traces on it. The rope, commanded by a motor, alternates impetuous movements with moments of calm and standstill in an unpredictable sequence that leaves the public impressed. The rope includes the artist’s hair – the dreadlocks she had cultivated for years. As time passes, the work will tend to deteriorate. The continuous rotation and the wear attributable to the movement will affect the rope, fraying it until it breaks and can no longer be rotated. The rope will therefore represent the relic of the work itself, emphasizing a primary element in the work of the artist: the perishability of a work of art attributable to the interaction of the materials and their exposition to physical and natural agents.
