Description
The artist made this project in the Havana School of Ballet, a building designed by the Italian architect Vittorio Garatti. Commissioned by the Cuban government in the early 1960s, as part of the educational policies promoted after the revolution, the architectural complex was intended to be built in the city’s most exclusive quarter. Closed inside metal structures resembling a cage, some men explore the building that, left in ruins before being completed, is an example of the failure of architecture, and materializes a time suspended between the past and the uncertain future. The work encourages to reflect on contemporary social and political prisons. The unfinished architecture manifests the restrictions imposed by Cuba, while it also recalls the recent liberating events.
