Giulia Cenci lento-violento (defeated)

Description
The work consists of four sculptural groups, exhibited on the occasion of the 2020 edition of the MAXXI BVLGARI Prize, whose suspended figures are inspired by the conflict between different species in nature. The protagonists of the work are composite figures, horses’ hooves floating in space, some agricultural tools, and a zoomorphic machine. lento-violento (defeated) is a group of 7 sculptures (called “horses”) that are suspended thanks to a system made up of steel cables and spring clips, harkening back to the unfolding of a battle. The harmony and compositional balance that characterize the scene disagree with the message evoked by the various figures, at once the protagonists and the victims of an invisible war of categories, hierarchies, and genders. In this work the artist reflects on the tensions that dominate the world and on the relationship between ourselves and others and with nature
