Description
Loris Cecchini began to work by modelling soft, pliable materials such as plastic, rubber and cellulose. The inclination for image manipulation proceeded with computer art, photo assembly and digital art, in which normal environments were reconstructed by means of up- or downscaling. He dedicated special attention to the use of plastic and metallic materials and the processes of growth, accumulation and crystallization of those materials. His experimentation was not limited to the formalization of an inorganic, chemical or molecular process but addressed the reinterpretation of social, architectural, habitat and structural situations. In 2003, with the start of the "Monologue Patterns" series, Cecchini focused his attention on the elaboration of the complex forms of the new architecture: he reinterpreted the architectural and project spaces in the light of structural and behavioral changes introduced by contemporary technology. "Monologue Patterns – Crisalide", represents the stage in which the cocoon of a larva opens and the larva becomes a butterfly. It has the form of a cylindrical metallic cage covered with a double layer of Perspex on which the leaves of an artificial plan have been grafted. The presence of this artificial natural element is the artist’s call to observe the new architectural morphology, the exchange between the biological structure and the progress of the imposed technological control. The work, a metaphor for the concealment of a beauty ready for disclosure, is part of a series of small spaces designed to hold no more than two visitors at a time, a place of intimacy and refuge.
