GUIDED MODE

Eduardo Stupia Paisaje

Size
cm 200 x 200
Description
Abstraction and figuration coexist in the works of Eduardo Stupía: the graphic gesture is at the same time a stain, a fiction, narrative and writing. His canvases offer the viewer a twofold approximation: from afar they are perceived as abstract compositions, from up close they suggest the landscapes, objects, and figures that populate the artist’s intimate world. The work Paisaje synthesizes the pivots of Stupía’s pictorial research over the past ten years. The interrelationship and the counterpoint between patterns, graphisms, linear rhythms, gestures, and textures constitute an optical network that calls into question the notion of legibility, paving the way to multiple resonances. The title of the work does not refer to the traditional genre of the landscape, but rather to the elaboration of a rhetoric of the constructive-spatial organization: a geography of signs, a sort of visual metaphor that is manifested by following the rules of pure graphic language, in which the fragmentary resonances of figurative elements appear, ones that nevertheless suddenly vanish in the ellipsis of the integral structure.
