Margherita Moscardini Inventory the Fountains of Za'atari

Size
71 x 53 x 7 cm
Description
The work Inventory. The Fountains of Za’atari is the result of the research conducted by Margherita Moscardini between September 2017 and March 2018 inside Camp Za’atari, the second largest refugee camp in the world, built in Jordan at the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2012. The artist’s project has been developed since 2015 from the study of refugee camps as urban entities which are not temporary but destined to last. In this work, Moscardini documents the water system of camp Za’atari and produces an inventory of the built fountains. The research culminates in the production of two works: a sculpture and an artist’s book, which in 2018 became part of museo Madre’s collection thanks to the 2017 MiBACT-DGAAP grant as part of the Italian Council, 2017 project. The book, entirely hand made, collects data from research conducted in collaboration with Marta Bellingreri, Tammam and Tasneem Al Nabilsi and Eyyad Sabbagh directed by the engineer Abu Tammam Al Nabilsi. The courtyards with fountains illustrated in the volume are intended as projects for large-scale sculptures imagined to be disseminated internationally in public spaces. The texts are written in Arabic and English. The translation from Arabic to English is by Dina Baslan and Udai Abu Lteaf.
